Hopoo Games' 3D multiplayer roguelike Risk of Rain 2 has been in early access since March 2019, and has released on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in that time. After seeing a delay in May to focus on optimizing the game, Risk of Rain 2 is planning to leave early access with its 1.0 patch this August, and apparently when it does it will be receiving a price increase.

The possibility of this game going up in price has been floated by the developer since its earliest days being available on Steam. Risk of Rain 2 has received numerous content updates with new mechanics, stages, bosses, and more, and in a "Development Thoughts" post on Steam Thursday it was confirmed that the 1.0 launch on PC will come with a jump from $19.99 to $24.99 as a result.

The Development Thoughts post goes into a number of other topics as well, including confirmation that the 1.0 update will be available on consoles sometime in the fall, and that Hopoo Games is starting to hire for help working on a "non-disclosed game." Risk of Rain 2 is a success story in the realm of early access sequels, a trend that has also been followed by titles like Cellar Door Games' Rogue Legacy 2.

Though some might be averse to the idea of a post-launch price increase, the amount of content that this co-op roguelike has added does justify the change. It's already a lot of work to unlock every playable Survivor, and the 1.0 update promises to add another one on top of the final stage and new items.

Risk of Rain 2 is out now in early access on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
