This week, developer Hopoo Games and publisher Gearbox Software announced the release of Risk of Rain 2 on Steam Early Access. The roguelike shooter has brought big changes to the series, most notably a new 3D perspective, which means that players have a lot more to uncover this time around. For example, Risk of Rain 2 introduces a new currency called Lunar Coins for players to collect.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a big trick to getting Lunar Coins in Risk of Rain 2. Every time a player defeats an enemy in Risk of Rain 2 they have a chance to earn a Lunar Coin.

Lunar Coins in Risk of Rain 2 are a rare drop, so players can’t expect to earn them at a rapid pace. Instead they will need to kill enemies and hope that a Lunar Coin drops. But while most items will disappear upon death in Risk of Rain 2, like in most roguelike games, Lunar Coins are tied to a player’s account. So players can continue to complete runs in Risk of Rain and earn Lunar Coins without worry about losing them.

What Do Lunar Coins Buy?

Once players have some Lunar Coins they can spend them at the Lunar Planets to receive a random item. However, Risk of Rain 2 pros recommend that players hold on to their Lunar Coins for a while since 10 of them are necessary to unlock the character Artificer.

While playing through Risk of Rain 2, players will come across a Shrine of Newt, which asks for 1 Lunar Coin. By giving the Shrine of Newt 1 Lunar Coin, players will unlock a portal to the Bazaar at the end of the level. At the Risk of Rain 2 Bazaar, players will able to spend their Lunar Coins on other items, with 10 Lunar Coins unlocking Artificer.
