Players that are looking to unlock Risk of Rain 2's new playable character, the Captain, or are simply trying to beat the game must first overcome a fairly difficult obstacle. That obstacle is none other than Mithrix, RoR2's new final boss who can be found on the Moon, and indeed this enemy packs quite a punch. However, with a little instruction and some solid execution fans should be able to topple Mithrix and reach the game's true conclusion.

The battle with Mithrix in Risk of Rain 2 is comprised of four distinct phases, and players that hope to beat this boss should familiarize themselves with all of them. In the first phase of the fight, a player's primary objective should be to maintain their distance from Mithrix, as they will look to deal significant melee damage with their hammer. Engineers can create this distance by using their turrets to keep the boss occupied, while other characters should simply use their ranged damage to slowly deplete the health bar.

Players should also be aware of a special ability that Mithrix will occasionally deploy in phase one, which sees the boss use a massive stomp to send out a shockwave. This emission can cause a truly staggering amount of damage, and roguelike fans should be prepared to jump over it when they see the boss do the related animation.

In the next phase of the fight, Mithrix will disappear and send out some of the enemies that players will have encountered previously on RoR2's Moon, which must be defeated in order to advance to phase three. While this part of the battle is fairly straightforward, fans can make things easier by positioning themselves on the edge of the area, as this will occasionally cause the ground units to get stuck, and eliminating the foes from there.

The third phase of the battle is perhaps the most difficult, with Mithrix returning to the fight alongside a number of smaller enemies. Again, it is recommended that a player stay near the perimeter of the arena during this section of the fight, and they should look to keep away from this difficult boss as they did in phase one. Fans should also take great care to dodge the shockwave ability in this phase, which has returned in a more powerful form, as well as the beams that Mithrix will emit when they moves to the middle of the arena.

After all of this, fans will finally find themselves in stage four of the fight, wherein Mithrix will steal all of their hard-earned items. However, these items will be gradually returned to the player as they damage the boss, and fans of this indie game should do their best to exercise patience with their attacks until they have tipped the scales in their favor and taken down Mithrix.

Risk of Rain 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
