Microsoft shocked the gaming world when they revealed Rise of the Tomb Raider as a timed Xbox exclusive at last year's E3 event. This angered fans that don't own an Xbox, and has resulted in public perception of the game to be far more negative than it would be otherwise.

That being said, Rise of the Tomb Raider will almost certainly be released on PlayStation systems eventually. Microsoft is publishing the game on Xbox platforms, but this wouldn't be the first time that Microsoft has published a game that ended up being re-released on other consoles. For example, the original Mass Effect was initially published by Microsoft and was, for a time, an Xbox 360 exclusive, but eventually made its way to PC and PS3, with EA as the publisher.

The point being that all fans of Tomb Raider should be excited to learn about the new game regardless, even if they will have to wait a little longer to play it on the platform of their choosing. To that point, fans of the franchise can look forward to new information on Rise of the Tomb Raider very soon, as the game's official Facebook page has asked them to "mark their calendars" for June 1st, this coming Monday.

So the question is, what new information will June 1st bring in regards to the game? It could be anything as simple as a release date announcement, or more likely, a brand new gameplay trailer.

Most Anticipated 2015 - Rise of the Tomb Raider

For the most part, we haven't really seen much of Rise of the Tomb Raider, especially in the form of tangible gameplay footage. The game's original trailer simply showed Lara dealing with the post-traumatic stress she suffers from after the events of the 2013 reboot, and only offered brief glimpses at what the actual gameplay will entail.

The game's story and new gameplay features are mostly a mystery as well, with the exception of a few details focused on tomb raiding that were divulged a few months back. We know that the game is about Lara seeking out a mythical city called Kitezh, and that Lara will have access to new tools in order to solve the game's larger, more complex tombs. Otherwise, June 1st may mark the first time that gamers are offered a truly extensive look at the highly anticipated game.

One thing's for certain, even more info on Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming later in June as well, during Microsoft's E3 press conference. There's also a chance that the game will make an appearance during Square Enix's press conference as well, but considering its status as a timed Xbox exclusive, it may end up only be shown during the MS presentation.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is due for release later this year as a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. How long the timed exclusivity for the game will last for sure is unknown at this point, but don't expect to see the game on non-Xbox platforms until mid to late 2016 at the earliest.
