Video game fans who decide to pre-order Crystal Dynamics' and Square Enix's Rise of the Tomb Raider get the 2013 title starring Lara Croft absolutely free.

With Rise of the Tomb Raider having finally received a PS4 release date for October after what many considered to be an incredibly long wait, it seems as if the developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix are looking to reward PlayStation fans for their patience. As it happens, the companies have decided to offer up a copy of 2013's crowd pleasing and critically acclaimed Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as a free bonus for those who pre-order the digital version of Rise of the Tomb Raider directly through the PlayStation Store.

For those unaware, the lengthy delay for Rise of the Tomb Raider's release on PS4 was due to Square Enix's controversial decision to make the game an Xbox timed exclusive, as it released for Microsoft consoles back in November 10 of 2015. With this being the case, hopefully for the sake of the publisher and developer, Sony fans will consider the added bonus of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition a worthy gift to compensate for the delay, and it will incentivize them to put down their money ahead of the title's launch on PS4.

On top of the free game for those who pre-order, there are a plethora of goodies being offered up in what's being dubbed the "20th Anniversary Celebration." For instance, the forthcoming PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider is getting a new single player, a mode called "Blood Ties" that focuses on narrative, some zombie horde styled gameplay called "Lara's Nightmare," as well as a co-op mode named "Endurance.”

In addition to aforementioned pieces of content in Rise of the Tomb Raider's 20th Anniversary Celebration for PS4, all previously released DLC, new costumes and skins, and even PlayStation VR support for Blood Ties will be available. Those who own the game on PC and Xbox One will get these materials—aside from PS VR assets, obviously—through Rise of the Tomb Raider's Season Pass for free.

PlayStation 4 players who have yet to experience Lara Croft's latest adventure are definitely in for a treat, as many consider the title to be one of the top 10 video games of 2015, and that's just in reference to the bare bones standard edition. With that in mind, even though PS4 fans will have had to wait a little more than a year to play Rise of the Tomb Raider on their consoles, as there's still nearly three months left to go before it releases on the system, they should definitely be impressed with the sizable portion of gameplay being offered with Rise of the Tomb Raider's 20th Anniversary Celebration edition.

What do you think about pre-ordering the digital version of Rise of the Tomb Raider and getting the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition free? Are you more inclined to reserve your copy with that being a bonus? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is out now for PC and Xbox One, while its PlayStation 4 version is set to release on October 11, 2016.
