Arekkz Gaming releases a new video containing 30 minutes of gameplay from Square Enix’s and Crystal Dynamics’ forthcoming title, Rise of the Tomb Raider.
WARNING! POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!
With Rise of the Tomb Raider set to drop next Tuesday, Arekkz Gaming’s YouTube channel has decided to put together a video of roughly 30 minutes of gameplay so that fans can get a better idea of what can be expected before purchasing the title. The actual footage starts at about an hour into Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s story, with the action-adventure game’s cutscenes edited out to reduce spoilers as much as possible.
The clip shows off portions of Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s Soviet Installation mission, which gives fans a general overview of the title’s exploration process, the specific area’s map layout, the in-game combat, hunting and foraging, as well as the upgrades system. Essentially, the gameplay reveals what players will encounter during some side-quests when not completing the primary goals required to move forward through the story.
Although Arekkz Gaming’s playthrough is fun to watch, if fans are already familiar with the first installment in Crystal Dynamics’ grittier reboot of the Lara Croft franchise, then nothing truly revelatory is shared in the video below. However, it’s worthy to note that the graphics are downright beautiful on the Xbox One, and fans should anticipate for the game to also look great on the PC and PlayStation 4 once the title’s timed-exclusive clause expires.
Should fans wish to get an even more comprehensive look at Rise of the Tomb Raider, nearly a half-hour of video from the title’s opening was published online a couple of weeks ago, and it ought to complement today’s presentation of in-game materials nicely. The footage from a while back should appear familiar to some, as it extended and built upon Microsoft’s gameplay reveal at E3 2015.
What’s been shown so far definitely proves Rise of the Tomb Raider has plenty of promise, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to tackle competitors. After all, the action-adventure game is facing stiff competition in its first week.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 releasing this Friday, and Fallout 4 coming out on the same day as the upcoming chapter in Lara Croft’s tale, Crystal Dynamics might take a hit in sales. Since Activision’s and Bethesda’s games are both multi-platform titles, the timed-exclusivity deal could end up hurting Rise of the Tomb Raider in the end. Nevertheless, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg believes that RotTR can at least hold its own versus Fallout 4. While it’s a bold claim for the Xbox products manager to make, it’s unlikely that the figures for the next Tomb Raider will top what Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG should earn.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is set for release as a timed-exclusive for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 10, 2015, and will arrive on PC in Q1 of 2016, and then on PlayStation 4 during Q4 of 2016.
