Since its inception, Rick and Morty has steadily maintained a dedicated fanbase. The eclectic mix of sci-fi concepts and often grotesque humor has become one of the most popular cartoons in recent years. Now that it's set to continue for a long time to come, the likelihood of Rick and Morty entering the video game space again seems high. The series has had a few games and a VR experience, but there are many studios that could do a great job of creating a more traditional gaming experience with the popular characters.

Rick and Morty characters have appeared in games already, but its high sci-fi world is rife with opportunities to create a full-scale experience. The show's comedy and action focus would take careful balancing, and that being said a couple of major studios could do a great job of adapting the show in a few different ways.

Insomniac wasn't a studio known for doing adaptations initially. That changed with the success of Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4. The studio created an original story that emulated much of what has made the comics and movies so popular, while also embracing the kinds of stories that only really work in a video game.

The studio has also already proven its capacity for humor in games with the popular Ratchet and Clank series. Rick and Morty has jokes take center stage most of the time, so incorporating them into a game would be vital. Ratchet and Clank's weapon design and sci-fi action also go a long way in proving the studio could handle the challenge of a proper Rick and Morty adaptation.

Sucker Punch

Another studio that has already cut its teeth in the comedic realm is Sucker Punch. The Sly Cooper series has an ensemble cast with different unique characters working together, and that same approach could serve the cast of Rick and Morty characters well - despite the jump to more mature humor than was seen in Sly Cooper. The studio has also proven its ability to craft giant game worlds that still feel full and alive with Ghost of Tsushima. The world of Rick and Morty has done nothing but grow since its inception, so that skill would be key.

Epic Games

Having already brought Rick and Morty into Fortnite, the pop culture juggernauts have somewhat of a relationship. Epic has also cut its teeth in the sci-fi realm more than once, and generally has a sense of humor in-line with Rick and Morty. The level of violence portayed in the cartoon is something fans would want to see in a full release, and Epic already has a reputation in that department. Plus, the studio's history of tight, consistent gameplay could help create an addictive loop in an open-world game for Rick and Morty.

Capcom

To go in a different direction, Capcom was once known for making 2D sidescroller adaptations of properties like Aladdin. While it has been a while since that formula was embraced, Rick and Morty could be a fun place to return to for the studio. After the record year Capcom has had financially thanks to Monster Hunter and Resident Evil releases, it could afford to dip its toe into the retro market. It also helps that Rick and Morty has embraced the aesthetic of a 2D brawler in an ad that emulated the pixel art style of the Scott Pilgrim game. Rick and Morty loves to parody popular works, and a full-fledged 2D brawler could spoof the genre and industry at large.

Rick and Morty is set to continue its fifth season in September 2021.
