Housemarque is working on its upcoming sci-fi game, Returnal, and has released a Dev Diary video that shows off some new footage of the PS5 exclusive. The Dev Diary is mostly a virtual call between two Housemarque members discussing details of the developer's history and what's in store with the sci-fi horror game Returnal.

Before the video shows off Returnal, it informs viewers on the status of the developer and some of its history. The video is hosted by Mikael Haveri, Housemarque's marketing director, who is joined by Game Director Harry Krueger for the video. They give a quick history of Housemarque for the video; sharing details on what led to them joining the developer and going over some of its best hits. It wraps up on their perspective of next-generation games, then shows off a quick glimpse of Returnal gameplay at the end.

The extra footage for Returnal is under a minute long and comes at the tail end of the video. It shows some fast-paced gameplay mechanics as the main character engages some of the game's eerie enemies with a possible electric weapon. She uses it to project electricity at the enemies while attracting small green orbs that could be used to restore health. The last bit shows her repeatedly dashing to avoid enemy attacks while using a traditional rifle this time. The video doesn't provide any details on Returnal's launch window.

The video is part of a Dev Diary series called HouseCast, of which this is the first episode. The video primarily gives viewers an inside peek at past games and Housemarque's expectations for Returnal. Haveri states that the developer is working remotely on and off location as its team continues development on Returnal. The two discuss the current state of the PS5's game launch, and the benefits and promise the next-gen console presents for future PS5 games.

After that, Krueger and Haveri discuss some of their history before joining Housemarque and share some of their feelings on the developer's past PlayStation launches. Most notably, Super Stardust HD on the PS3 and Housemarque's PS4 game Resogun, in particular. Then the conversation transitions to talking about what's on the horizon with the PS5 and its new games coming out, with Krueger expressing a positive outlook on it.

They both conclude the video by discussing Returnal, but don't discuss many details. Krueger describes it as a "dream project" for the developer and Haveri echoes the company's excitement to see it completed. Returnal is Housemarque's next chapter in its creative efforts, and can't wait for players to get it.

Returnal is currently in development for the PS5.
