The Nintendo Wii is home to a bunch of retro inspired titles such as Cave Story and the BIT.TRIP series. In complement to that, soon gamers will be able to get their hands on Retro City Rampage, a title that got a lot buzz at PAX 2010. Just as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World paid tribute to both classic video games and anime, Retro City Rampage is paying homage to games like the original Grand Theft Auto.

Below we have a trailer showing off one reference to a famous plumber:

This summer when we showed you gameplay footage of Retro City Rampage and we also gave you a small list of the included videogame references. Well now it seems you can add Super Mario Bros. to that list. On top of the sheer hilarity of a radioactive Mario jumping out a sewer pipe and biting you, it also looks like you'll get to ride Yoshi in motorcycle form.

There's so much nostalgia coming from this title you can taste it. When watching this trailer I'm immediately thrown back to my time as a youngster, spending too many hours in my room on my NES, playing games such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ninja Gaiden, Batman -- one of the most difficult games ever made -- and of course Super Mario Bros. Yes, many of the old NES games were not lenient when it came to difficulty, and I honestly feel kids today have it easy, but as I get older I can feel my gaming reflexes begin to fade. Retro City Rampage looks like it centered around the player having fun instead of the bone-crushing difficulty of its predecessors.

Ranters, are you ready to stomp on people really hard in Retro City Rampage?

Retro City Rampage is due out on WiiWare by the end of the year.
