Almost two years ago, Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment announced that it is working on a Star Wars game. Almost no details have been revealed about the project so far (it doesn't even have a name), but the game's publisher Electronic Arts (EA) has now confirmed the game's release window.

During its latest earnings call, EA confirmed that Respawn's Star Wars game is expected to release some time during the 2020 fiscal year. This would put the game's release date between April 2019 and March 2020. This also means that those looking forward to seeing what the developer, which is famed for its bombastic action gameplay, can do with the Star Wars universe will have to wait two years at most to get their hands on it.

Next to nothing about Respawn's Star Wars game has been officially confirmed so far; all fans know is that it will be a third-person action adventure game. 11 months ago, Respawn said that it wouldn't be talking about the new game "for a while" but with the release window confirmed, it seems that now would be as good a time as ever to start talking. Fans will have their fingers crossed that some more information about the game, its setting, its characters, story, and gameplay will be revealed at E3 2018 during the EA press conference.

EA and Respawn will also have a challenge on their hands when it comes to proving that this Star Wars game is different from all of the others in the works or have already been released. How will Respawn's title differ from the gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront? And what is being done to ensure that Respawn's Star Wars game and the Star Wars game at EA Vancouver and EA Motive are different enough to make buying both of them worth it?

That latter question is particularly important given that Respawn's last game, Titanfall 2, was well-regarded but its sales were disappointing due to a tight release schedule. EA released the game alongside its own Battlefield 1 and Activision's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and failed to provide fans with a compelling enough reason as to why they should consider it seriously.

The Star Wars game at EA Vancouver and EA Motive is also scheduled to release sometime in 2019, potentially making Respawn's Star Wars game a serious competitor. EA won't want to have another Titanfall 2 situation on its hands and it will need to address those concerns now before it's too late.
