Respawn Entertainment has been a fan-favorite studio from its first day. Its first projects, Titanfall and Titanfall 2, remain popular, while its latest projects, Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, are two of the most successful games released in recent memory. Respawn Entertainment isn't content to sit on its laurels, however. Growth remains a priority even now. That couldn't be made clearer than via a new Respawn confirmation that a new "incubation" team has been formed for a new single-player project.

The announcement comes from Respawn creative director Mohammad Alavi, who posted an update on Twitter. The post that Alavi made features for listings for jobs at Respawn Entertainment, including a Lead Technical Game Designer, Senior Technical Game Designer, Senior Combat Designer, and Senior Level Designer. To help draw in more talent for the jobs, Alavi clarifies what they'll be working on at Respawn. Specifically, he say they'll join a new single-player team for a new single-player adventure.

Alavi further explains that the new single-player team is "small, but ambitious" and that they have a history of "dreaming big and making splashes." Obviously, there's few further details regarding what kind of project the team is working on, let alone when it might be revealed or released. The team is referred to as the "incubation team" within the job listings, but that's about all. Still, it's interesting that he described it as an "adventure," as that implies something more akin to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as opposed to Titanfall.

Delving into the job listings, there's one additional bit of information worth considering. A line in the Lead Technical Game Designer profile says it's an opportunity that gives "a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits." That doesn't necessarily remove the possibility of a Titanfall or Star Wars universe for the game, but it heavily implies that Respawn is working with something different.

Respawn was previously known to have two different teams working concurrently on different projects. One team was obviously fully focused on Apex Legends, being Respawn's online multiplayer team. The other team is focused on single-player projects, most recently Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This new incubation team will be Respawn's third, at least of the teams that are known. Respawn's also notably mentioned working on a new IP with a small but growing team. That's probably the same project.

Being a small team, the incubation team's project will presumably be much smaller in scope than either Apex Legends or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It probably won't even be as big as the original Titanfall. It could grow into projects of that size eventually, but until then it's going to be an opportunity for Respawn to truly flex its creativity. Hopefully, Respawn will continue to share information about the incubation team's efforts in the months and years to come.
