The wait for Resident Evil Village is almost over now that Capcom's latest entry to the long-running survival horror franchise is now mere hours away from release. Officially, Resident Evil Village is slated to launch on May 7th, 2021. However, players in different time zones may be able to play the game before then.

Currently, Capcom is yet to announce the exact time Resident Evil Village will release officially. However, both the PlayStation and Xbox stores indicate that the digital version of the game will be unlocked at midnight ET, May 7th, or 9 PM PT, May 6th. As far as other countries are concerned, Resident Evil Village is expected to unlock at midnight, May 7th, in their specific timezone. This means that players in Asia and Australia should be able to start playing Resident Evil Village now or in just a few hours. Unfortunately, the exact release time of Resident Evil Village on PC and Stadia remains unclear. But it will likely be unlocked at the same time as consoles.

One crucial thing players should remember to do is preload the game to access it immediately once it unlocks. To preload, players must head to the digital storefront of their choice, pre-order Resident Evil Village for $59.99, and queue up download immediately. For the uninitiated, Resident Evil Village's file size is as follows: PS4 - 29.4 GB, PS5 - 27.4 GB, Xbox - 27.11 GB. As for the release time, the exact size of the game on PC is still unconfirmed, but it shouldn't be that different from its console counterparts.

Yesterday, the review embargo for Resident Evil Village had been lifted, and so far, it appears that the reception is generally favorable. Some outlets noted that while Resident Evil Village amplified action elements, the game is still scary and has many tense moments, especially when encountering Lycans and Lady Dimitrescu. Additionally, several of Resident Evil Village's villains are shaping up to be the most memorable yet.

Although early reviews for Resident Evil Village are primarily positive, the game's fear factor has been called into question after a Capcom producer confirmed that the studio had to scale down Resident Evil Village's horror. According to Tsuyoshi Kanda, who spoke with Axios Gaming, Capcom received feedback from fans that 2017's Resident Evil 7 was too scary. This resulted in the developers scaling down the level of horror in Resident Evil Village as a response to the feedback from fans.

While it remains to be seen just how different Resident Evil Village is compared to its predecessor, fans should still expect that it will be scarier than earlier entries in the franchise. Anyone who was able to try out Resident Evil Village's demos would know that the game is still filled with intense and terrifying moments, so it should still be scary, but maybe not as much as Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil Village is set to release on May 7, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
