Resident Evil Village is the hotly anticipated newest addition to the classic horror series. A direct sequel to Resident Evil 7Resident Evil Village looks to continue the series' return to its survival horror roots and looks to employ a number of classic mechanics to do so.

Resident Evil Village was announced last year and takes Resident Evil 7's protagonist Ethan Winters to a gothic castle filled with horrors, including the intimidatingly tall vampire Lady Dimitrescu, who instantly caught the internet's attention. The game follows the format set by its predecessor that saw the series delve into first-person survival horror rather than the third-person or fixed camera perspectives the series had employed before.

Resident Evil Village also looks to bring back a variety of other fan-favorite features from throughout the series, one of which is the return of typewriters for players to use to save their games. Saving via typewriter is an iconic part of classic Resident Evil titles, and although they no longer will require the ink ribbon item to use in Resident Evil Village, they surely are a welcome return for fans. Another long-awaited classic feature returning to the series with Resident Evil Village is the Mercenaries mode that first appeared in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Resident Evil fans can also expect the new title to include the series' famous resource management gameplay that sees players having to conserve ammunition as much as possible and carefully approach encounters with enemies. Many fans have drawn parallels between Resident Evil Village and the classic Resident Evil 4 due to its village setting, rescue mission plot, and the ability in both games for players to sell collectibles found across the map to purchase more supplies. The return of beloved character Chris Redfield also points towards Resident Evil Village calling back to many of the series' highlights to make sure it is an entry that will satisfy fans.

While a recently released Resident Evil Village demo has given fans a small preview of what is in store for them in the full game, fans have been left with a lot of questions leading to the game's release. Little is known about Lady Dimitrescu, the group of witches that seem to follow her commands, or the Lycans that have been confirmed to appear in the game, but fans will likely have to wait to get the answers on their own once the game launches and they are surviving the many horrors of the village themselves.

Resident Evil Village releases on May 7, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
