It's been a great couple of years for Capcom who continues to produce hugely successful games as the Monster Hunter series continues to break records and now Resident Evil Village appears to be on a similar trajectory. Just a few days after release, Capcom announced that it has already shipped out 3 million copies of RE8 globally. The popularity has also led to an influx of new mods for the PC version of the game as well.

With many of these mods, the community's creativity is on full display, running the gamut of helpful where fans can identify the person who appears in the post-credits scene, to the wildly bizarre. Fans have also spent plenty of time modding in characters such as Thomas the Tank engine, as well as switching Chris Redfield's head with baby Rosemary. As expected, one Resident Evil Village fan is attempting to add in a third person viewpoint.

While recent Resident Evil games have revisited previous games through new remakes, Resident Evil Village brings back Ethan Winters and the first person perspective. Capcom continues to be determined to not reveal Ethan's face, comically scratching out his head from view in pictures and not giving fans a way to see what he actually looks like. As it turns out, Resident Evil Village is hiding another secret, one that fans likely would have missed out completely without the aid of a third person camera.

The Modder known as FluffyQuack has created a third person camera mod for Resident Evil Village, and publish a video of it in action. Using Mercenaries Mode, the big reveal is that Ethan's character model doesn't actually have a head at all, likely due to it being the position of the game's normal camera. In addition, the in progress mod also has a few quirks including the camera occasionally clipping through walls, Ethan looking in the wrong direction while shooting, the camera shifting back to first person mode, and Ethan not being able to interact with certain objects.

Still, FluffyQuack is continuing to work on the mod to fix the current issues with a game that Capcom likely never intended to have made into a third person mode. Still, FluffyQuack has been able to experience some interesting things utilizing it, posting an earlier version of the mod with the player replacing Ethan with Cassandra Dimitrescu wandering around House Beneviento using the third person mod.

Using the camera to hide certain elements in a first person perspective game isn't new for many developers. In fact, CD Projekt RED did something similar with Cyberpunk 2077 and its character animations. Considering the player doesn't see the character at all during gameplay, third person mods for Cyberpunk 2077 had to solve and work out a few oddities such as parts of the character model not moving or animating near the center of the body.

Resident Evil Village is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
