Two weeks into the month of June and PlayStation has already released information and details of the top most downloaded PlayStation 5 games for the previous month. Among the many PS5 titles released last May 2021, Capcom’s survival horror title Resident Evil Village has come out on top, both in the American and European regions of the PlayStation Store.

The hype and popularity of Resident Evil Village should not come as a surprise for most gamers, given how highly-anticipated the launch of the title was. Capcom fanned the Resident Evil series hype, creating noise through a variety of online and offline marketing campaigns. Fans will likely recall the life-sized standees of Lady Dimitrescu spotted in retail stores, her imagery in the tall buses of Hong Kong, and even the highly-watched online streams that centered on the horror title. All of which resulted in Capcom reporting that it had sold over 3 million Resident Evil Village units.

In a recent post shared on the PlayStation blog, the company showcased the top 20 most downloaded PlayStation 5 games for May 2021. In the displayed charts, it can be seen that Resident Evil Village has been the most downloaded PlayStation 5 title in both the North America/Canada and Europe PlayStation Store regions. With the amount of game sales and continued hype within the Resident Evil community, RE Village topped the UK boxed sales charts once again.

The survival horror video game was also the most downloaded PlayStation 4 game in the European region, with the multiplayer survival title Rust Console Edition as its top downloaded counterpart in the North America PlayStation store. Other titles also made it into the top 20 most downloaded titles for the PlayStation 5. This included the third-person shooter roguelike Returnal, the highly-anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and even the two-player puzzle title It Takes Two. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Valhalla also makes an appearance at number 8 in Europe and number 20 in US/Canada for the PlayStation 5, even though the game has been out in the market since November 2020.

With June 2021 also playing host to several other big video game releases such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it is likely that gamers will see some changes in the PlayStation Store download charts. However, with Resident Evil Village still pretty fresh from its launch, fans are likely hoping to see the video game pop up and do well once PlayStation is able to share the most downloaded titles for the month of June.

Resident Evil Village is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
