New promotional images of the upcoming Shadows of Rose DLC for Resident Evil Village have been released. The latest screenshots give fans an initial insight into the horrors that await them in the continuation of the Winters' saga in Resident Evil Village's Rose-focused DLC.

Capcom first revealed specific news of the Winters' Expansion, a DLC package which includes the Shadows of Rose campaign, At the Capcom Showcase in June 2022. The expansion was also revealed to contain a third-person mode for Resident Evil Village and new Mercenaries mode content that adds Lady Dimitrescu, Lord Heisenberg, and Chris Redfield as playable characters, alongside two new stages. The Shadows of Rose campaign is a story expansion set sixteen years after the events of Village, featuring the titular Rose Winters as the main protagonist. Rose must enter the consciousness of the Megamycete to break free from the terrifying powers she inherited from her experiences in Resident Evil Village.

Capcom's Resident Evil Showcase on October 20 gave fans a new trailer reveal for the Shadows of Rose DLC, which gave a glimpse of a host of mutated creatures that will push Rose to her limits. In a PlayStation Blog post, Tsuyoshi Kanda, Producer of Resident Evil Village, unveiled a number of new promotional images to compliment the trailer that give a better look at some of the monsters that lurk in the consciousness of the Megamycete. Tall, grotesque humanoids who bear a resemblance to Resident Evil 7's Molded have been revealed as "Face Eaters" who steal the life from other living beings, and Rose can be seen facing off against a plant-esque monster that looks to have been inspired by Plant 43 encountered in Resident Evil 2 Remake.

In additional promotional images, dark and gruesome environments are on show along with a multi-faced, mutated creature grimacing in pain and wrapped in barbed wire. The usually friendly merchant, The Duke, has had an evil makeover in a Marquis mask flanked by grotesque creatures. Kanda went on to state that, "This Realm is a world where many traps and monstrosities lurk. However, Rose can only carry a handgun, a little bit of ammo, and first aid med." which suggests players will have to utilize the careful resource management strategies of earlier games to survive.

The monsters of Resident Evil have been a high point for fans of the franchise, with iconic creatures such as Lickers, Crimson heads, Tyrant variants, and the mutated stages of William Birkin's G abomination pushing the limits of body horror creativity. Originality in enemy design seemed a little lacking in the base monsters of Resident Evil 7 and Village when compared to some of the more beloved creatures of the franchise. Fortunately, from these images it seems fans may be in for a treat when Shadows of Rose is released.

Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
