Of the many exciting things announced during the Capcom Showcase, Resident Evil Village had a lot of announcements attached to it. With new playable characters added to the Mercenaries mode, as well as a third-person mode reminiscent of the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, there's a lot for fans to look forward to in terms of Resident Evil Village. Though, the one piece of new content that has a lot of fans excited is the Shadows of Rose DLC campaign.

When Resident Evil Village Gold Edition was announced, the very first thing that got shown off was the Shadows of Rose DLC. This campaign takes place after the events of the base game and follows the ongoing story of Rose Winters, the daughter of Ethan Winters. While this should hopefully present new narrative possibilities, apparently Shadows of Rose is much more difficult than the original game.

Over on Twitter, a user named AestheticGamer tweeted that according to the official Twitter page for Resident Evil, the Shadows of Rose DLC will have a much higher difficulty than Resident Evil Village. This is due to the fact that ammo, healing items, and other helpful tools will be much more limited by comparison. Presumably, this is meant as a way of emphasizing player choice in a way that's similar to the original Resident Evil titles.

The choice to have a higher difficulty in Shadows of Rose could be indicative of the story Capcom is trying to tell with this DLC campaign. Many players are speculating what direction the narrative of Shadows of Rose will take now that Ethan Winters is no longer the playable protagonist and a large reason as to why that's the case is that not much is known about Rose's character to begin with.

At the end of Resident Evil Village, it was revealed that Rose has grown up and has been trained under Chris Redfield in order to use her powers more efficiently. However, outside of that, not much additional information about Rose's character has been made available, which will certainly change once Shadows of Rose releases.

Right now, it's hard to tell what direction Capcom will take in terms of Shadows of Rose. It's clear that Rose will be returning to the village where she was captured as a child, but other than that, not much else can really be discerned. One thing that can be said for sure is that this campaign will likely be more divergent than previous Resident Evil DLC campaigns, like End of Zoe, given how much time is spent between Shadows of Rose and Resident Evil Village.

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will release on October 28th, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
