Gamers who decide to purchase the Trauma Pack DLC for Resident Evil Village will find a variety of goodies: Two in-game bonuses for Resident Evil 7, artwork, an extra difficulty setting, and more. But the most intriguing, by far, is the Samurai Edge. It's a pistol that is no stranger to the Resident Evil universe and fans were gleeful to see it back in the game.

But is it worth it? Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder and the community has an awful lot of players who behold this gun in different ways. With so many opinions, it's wise to jot them all down and carefully consider what this weapon brings to the table. There is only so much inventory space, so here is some expert analysis on whether this gun values that space or not.

At First Glance: Yes

Don't overlook the most obvious benefit of the Samurai Edge; it's free! And because it is available when first reaching the Duke, it can come in handy as an alternative to the base handgun for those who like a different flavor to shooting pistols.

There is, of course, the monetary cost of buying the Trauma Pack, but as far as in-game content goes, it's just fine. It's slightly better than the base version of the starting gun, so it can be a superior alternative during the first couple of encounters with zombies.

Despite the advantages listed in the previous section, there is an overwhelming amount of bad things to say about the Samurai Edge. With 110 power, a 2.6-second reload speed, a 0.4-second rate of fire, and a nine bullet clip, this gun is firmly in the lower tier of weapons.

But that's not even the worst thing about it. The gun cannot be upgraded and it cannot be modded, meaning unlike other pistols, it will only fall further behind as the game gradually increases in difficulty. By the end of the campaign, the Samurai Edge is, frankly, garbage. One has to wonder if not being able to increase its stats was an oversight.

Until this is fixed, it has to be considered one of the more disrespectful "additions" to the game, both for Resident Evil fans of the Samuari Edge lore and for people who paid their hard-earned money for a virtually worthless piece of content.

Final Verdict: Technically Worth It

So why is this gun still "worth" it? Well, since it can be bought for free, players who sell it will make an extra 185 Lei in profit. And it can be sold to the Duke immediately, after receiving it, so it doesn't have to take up valuable inventory space. The Trauma Pack has other tidbits that might also validate the cost of the Trauma Pack and/or Deluxe Edition, so the butchered job with the gun it's all that big of a deal. Even so, fans will be hoping this classic gun receives a well-deserved patch sooner rather than later.
