Fans who may have been disappointed with Albert Wesker’s absence in Resident Evil Village now have something to be excited to be about. A new mod replaces Chris Redfield with Wesker, allowing fans to reunite with the fan-favorite villain

Wesker was the chief antagonist of the Resident Evil series until his supposed death at the end of Resident Evil 5. Initially introduced in the original Resident Evil game as supporting character, Wesker is a genius virologist who worked with the Umbrella Corporation and helped create the original T-virus. Wesker was also responsible for manipulating the major events of the series behind the scenes. While he was not present in Resident Evil 7, some fans believed he would reappear in Resident Evil Village, as Wesker has already faked his death before.

Unfortunately for his fans, Wesker did not return in Resident Evil Village game, but that only seems to have inspired one modder to create a mod that brings Wesker back from the grave. Created by DarknessValtier, the mod replaces Chris Redfield with the franchise’s original villain. But the mod is just a reskin, so characters will still refer to Wesker as Chris, and Wesker will have Chris’s voice. The reskin is still undoubtedly impressive, as it includes full facial animations for Wesker in the game’s cut scenes.

It is fitting that the mod replaces Chris Redfield with the franchise’s original villain, as several trailers hinted that he would be the game’s main villain. Many fans were surprised by this, considering that Chris Redfield has been the hero of multiple Resident Evil games and has been a mainstay since the first entry in the series. However, Chris Redfield’s role in Resident Evil Village is more complex than what is teased at the beginning of the game.

Despite being absent from the last two Resident Evil games, it still seems plausible that Wesker could return in future entries. Though he was seemingly killed in Resident Evil 5 by Chris Redfield, the game’s writers could easily come up with a way to bring Wesker back to life. The move would also likely score points with long-time fans, as Wesker is still one of the most recognizable characters of Resident Evil and Capcom has struggled to create a villain capable of living up to his legacy.

Some fans believe that Capcom has hidden clues regarding Wesker’s eventual return in Resident Evil Village, but it seems that no one has uncovered any of these supposed clues since the game launched last week. The game has only been out for a few days, however, and perhaps fans will uncover references to Wesker’s possible return with more time.

Resident Evil Village is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
