In typical fashion for the series, Resident Evil Village presents many secrets to the player that can't be unraveled until later in the game. It's common to find a puzzle that's missing a piece, or a chest which requires a key that must be found elsewhere. This is the case when players find a locked coffer in the Lone Road area of the village. The key to this chest is so well hidden that most players will finish their entire campaign in Resident Evil Village without ever finding it.

Gamers will step foot on the Lone Road for the first time after defeating Lady Dimitrescu and escaping her castle. Those with a knack for exploration will find a locked chest in one of the side rooms. At this point, players won't have the necessary key in their inventory. The placement of this chest is particularly malicious too because the room does not appear on the player's map. By the time it's possible to obtain the chest key, most will have forgotten where the chest was to begin with.

Players won't have to wait long before they can search for the key, though. While on the hunt for the house with the red chimney as part of the story progression, it's possible to return to some familiar places around the village. Things have changed with the passage of in-game time. With some new tools on hand, certain secrets can be uncovered that were out of reach during the first visit. But as luck would have it, the key for the Lone Road chest is actually in plain sight.

Where to Find the Lone Road Chest Key in Resident Evil Village

After discovering the locked chest along the Lone Road, players should head back to Luiza's house if they want to find the key. As a reminder, Luiza lived on the eastern side of the village, on the far end of Fallow Plot. Her home is in ruins after the events earlier in the game, but something new is waiting for Ethan among the wreckage. A decorated box is sitting out in the open, and it contains an heirloom necklace that belonged to Luiza.

Luiza's Necklace is considered a key item and can not be sold for money, but what use could it have for Ethan's quest?

Veterans of the Resident Evil series know all too well that every item should be closely examined for additional secrets. Players should navigate to their key items in the inventory, and select Luiza's Necklace to examine. Upon closer look, it turns out that Luiza's Key was hidden within the necklace. This is the exact item that's needed to open the locked Lone Road chest.

Players can return to the Lone Road by proceeding west from the Altar. The room containing the locked chest is tucked away along the southern wall bordering the road. Within is Cesare's Goblet, a very valuable treasure that can be sold to the Duke for 19,000 Lei. This amount of money goes a long way towards unlocking some very important weapon upgrades.

Resident Evil Village is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
