A new chapter in the saga of Resident Evil games has just released, and it has been rather well-received so far. While the reception on the actual involvement of Lady Dimitrescu is mixed, with some talking about how little her role proved to be despite all the build-up, Resident Evil Village is garnering many positive reviews as more players finish the game.

Resident Evil Village was one of the most anticipated games to release in May, but despite the fact that Resident Evil Village has released for multiple platforms, the very popular Xbox Game Pass does not include the new Resident Evil game. With some documents appearing online, which could determine the plausible cause of this situation, some players are upset about how things were handled. Now, it may just be that it would have never come to Game Pass, but it's hard to imagine that, after everything else, Microsoft did not at least try to score RE Village for Game Pass.

Resident Evil Village, Alleged Sony-Capcom Deal, Xbox Game Pass, And More

Xbox Game Pass is one that other companies are looking into, with the likes of Sony seemingly willing to incorporate a similar system given the success Microsoft's initiative has had up to now. Game Pass has been known to include even games the caliber of Outriders, MLB The Show 21, and the upcoming Halo Infinite, and many players were hoping to see Resident Evil Village among the newly added titles to this service. However, this is not the case, and recent information is likely to address the reason why.

Apparently, Resident Evil Village is not going to be part of the Xbox Game Pass for a while, at least a year, and that is because of a rumored marketing deal contract between Sony and Capcom. This contract is supposedly blocking Capcom from adding it to Xbox Game Pass from adding for one whole year, which made many fans angry and upset. If this deal is legitimate, it's worth noting that this sort of deal is not something new, and Resident Evil Village and Xbox Game Pass are not the first to be hit by this widespread practice.

It's not a 1:1 comparison, notably, but Borderlands 3 was exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a year. Though many look at is as a blocking tactic, it's more a natural evolution of exclusivity clauses (even though it's not an exclusive game). Reportedly, Epic Games paid a huge amount of money to ensure that the game was exclusively purchasable from the Epic Games Store, which means that the deal for Resident Evil Village could be not too dissimilar from that between Gearbox and Epic Games. As a matter of fact, the new Resident Evil has been part of Sony's highlighted games selection to demonstrate just how potent the new PS5 is when running games that boast incredible graphics.

The documents that appeared earlier this week on Twitter, whose validity still remains unverified, allegedly prevent the newly released chapter of the acclaimed survival horror series to launch on several platforms, including Xbox Game Pass, and other subscription-based services. Whether valid or not, this type of deal is not very surprising. After all, each new release has its own revenue-making deals, and Resident Evil Village could still come to the Xbox Game Pass later on, likely in one year's time.

Resident Evil Village is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
