Capcom's Resident Evil 8, also known as Resident Evil Village, has been a resounding success for the studio. It is one of the fastest-selling titles in the Resident Evil series, and it has scooped up plenty of awards, including the Ultimate Game of Year award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021 and the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2021. Not unexpectedly, plenty of gamers have been eager for more Resident Evil 8 and, fortunately, Capcom has confirmed that the game will be receiving free DLC.

In typical Capcom fashion, the studio has remained very secretive about the upcoming DLC, and as such, gamers do not know when it will arrive or what they can expect from it. However, Capcom has been leaving sprinklings of hints and teasers around that seem to suggest the arrival of Resident Evil 8's DLC is near. Unfortunately, rather frustratingly, Capcom can be excessively cryptic at times, causing teases to produce more questions than answers.

Capcom's Hints and Teases

Oftentimes, it is useful to turn to Twitter to find out what Capcom is up to, as the studio often posts messages that hint at future releases. The posts are usually cryptic, which makes it incredibly difficult to determine when Capcom is being obtuse for the sake of it or whether it is trying to communicate something important. This was seen, for instance, in 2021 when Capcom tweeted out "4. Itchy. Tasty," causing gamers to argue over whether the studio was hinting at Resident Evil 4's remake or whether it is simply a reference to a popular Resident Evil line.

History has repeated itself with Resident Evil Village. On 9 March 2022, the official Resident Evil account sent out a tweet with the words "a rat can't run from the dragon's claws!" along with an image of Lady Dimitrescu. For many, this seems as though it is teasing Resident Evil Village's DLC, however, Capcom has yet to confirm anything. Capcom's enigmatic nature has also resulted in a few shattered expectations when the studio's cryptic teases end up not being related to Resident Evil Village's DLC. This occurred, for instance, when Capcom put up a counter on its website. At the end of the countdown Street Fighter 6 was revealed instead. For this reason, it is useful to take any rumors surrounding Resident Evil with a grain of salt and not get too attached to any theory when Capcom drops hints.

Resident Evil in 2022

According to Capcom, Resident Evil Village's DLC will arrive in 2022 along with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. While gamers wait for the DLC to arrive, they can look forward to plenty of other Resident Evil projects Capcom has liked up for 2022. The studio has announced that Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake will be receiving current-generation upgrades for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S. It is also rumored that the heavily anticipated remake of Resident Evil 4 may arrive in 2022.

Resident Evil Village managed to be successful by replicating many of the things that made Resident Evil 7 so memorably terrifying. It maintains the first-person perspective while continuing the story of Ethan Winters as he faces untold horrors, including hairy Lycans. A suspenseful atmosphere is kept throughout the game's length, and although it is relatively short, it provides a fearful experience that is impossible to forget. With gamers anticipating the announced DLC, it makes sense for Capcom to drop hints and teases to drum up more excitement. However, it might be useful to crank down just how convoluted and cryptic the teasers are, as they can end up being more frustrating than fascinating.

Resident Evil Village is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
