During Capcom's E3 showcase earlier today, the developer confirmed some huge Resident Evil news, announcing that development on additional content for Resident Evil Village has officially begun. The reveal was made following Capcom's confirmation that the game's delayed multiplayer segment, RE:Versewill launch next month.

As for what this slice of DLC will be, Capcom doesn't go into specifics, with the announcement coming via a wall of text following a conversation with Resident Evil Village's producer, Tsuyoshi Kanda. All the company has revealed is that it's just started production and players can expect to see more from the immensely popular horror blockbuster.

This isn't too much of a surprise considering how popular Resident Evil Village was upon release, topping May's sales charts and amassing great reviews. The title followed up on Resident Evil 7's fresh take on the franchise, returning to a tense, first-person perspective as protagonist Ethan Winters embarked on a perilous journey to save his daughter, Rose. The game leaves a lot of intriguing questions unanswered, so Village will have a lot to expand upon when it eventually does delve into its post-launch content.

Resident Evil 7 also had its fair share of DLCs back when it launched in 2017, offering various sub-stories branching off the main campaign. For the most part, they fleshed out the events surrounding Ethan's encounters with the Baker family, showing how the Mold took over their minds and drove them insane. Two of these sections even documented the events that took place after the campaign, with one seeing Chris Redfield pursue Lucas Baker through the game's monster-filled mines and the other following Jack Baker's brother punching mutated alligators to save his niece. If Capcom decides to follow a similar path, then players could be in for some alternate perspectives on the events leading up to Village's campaign.

The rest of Capcom's showcase delivered a range of games, including The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Monster Hunter Stories 2, and more. It mostly focused on what players know is coming and getting them excited to dive into a new array of titles. It's not the only showcase to provide some fresh glimpses at upcoming projects, with Microsoft providing early looks at Halo Infinite, Stalker 2, Psychonauts 2, Far Cry 6, and Battlefield 2042 yesterday, while Square Enix highlighted new Life is Strange footage and Ubisoft gave fans a closer look at Riders Republic on Saturday. E3 concludes tomorrow with new presentations from both Nintendo and Bandai Namco.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
