A couple of people from Capcom have said the Resident Evil Village DLC, "Shadows of Rose" was created by shifting focus away from a Chris Redfield story. As one of the best horror games of 2021, many have been anticipating some new content for the survival title, or at the very least they've been hoping to hear word about a potential follow-up. However, it's the former that's currently on the way, which will include some other features.

Capcom is set to launch the Gold Edition of the game on October 28. This upcoming release will feature Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose DLC, additional playable characters for the Mercenaries mode, and a new third-person perspective, which fans have been looking forward to. However, it transpired that the titular Rose was not the only focus of the DLC, with ideas in mind for Chris Redfield, the series' long-standing buff hero.

In a recent interview with Inside, as spotted by GamesRadar, Resident Evil Village director Kento Kinoshita has said they'd been working on a concept for a while before settling on Rose's story. The idea would have involved Chris Redfield "going crazy," but they eventually shifted focus to work on "Shadows of Rose" instead. A "Winters Expansion" was in development soon after the main game released last May. Whether this shelved plan will get made cannot be said at this stage, but Kinoshita goes on to say that the team wanted to listen to the fans, many of whom were "moved by the main story."

In that same interview, it was unveiled that Ethan's face won't be shown in Resident Evil Village's third-person mode, even if players move the camera around. The reason behind this, according to producer Masao Kawada, has to do with the main character being a representation of the player's ego. If players do try to move the camera around to see his face, it will apparently just snap back around or change angle.

Fans don't have long to wait now for RE8's DLC. It's been said that Shadows of Rose will complete the Winters story, which means the next installment in the long-running survival horror series will likely feature new characters. However, it's too early to say what will be coming in Resident Evil 9. While there almost certainly will be a new entry, all fans can do at this stage is speculate, and anticipate the arrival of the Gold Edition of Village.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with the Gold Edition due out on October 28.
