Warning: This post contains minor spoilers for both Resident Evil Village and Mortal Kombat (2021)!

Resident Evil Village has only just released but already fans are blazing through the game and helping the series reach new heights. There is a lot to uncover within the follow-up to Resident Evil 7, but one of the main things that has been driving excitement for the game is Lady Dimitrescu.

Affectionately referred to as “Giant Vampire Lady,” Lady Dimitrescu transformed from mysterious Resident Evil 8 villain to full-blown meme over the course of Capcom’s promotion for the game. While she wasn’t the only reason that most were picking up Resident Evil Village, Lady Dimitrescu did become a major selling point.

However, once players got their hands on Resident Evil Village they found that Lady Dimitrescu’s role is not as substantial as they might have thought. In fact, for all of the focus that Capcom put on Lady Dimitrescu, her involvement in the game is somewhat disappointing.

How Much is Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village Meeting Lady Dimitrescu And Her Daughters

When Capcom started to discuss Lady Dimitrescu in terms of gameplay, the studio likened her to Mr. X, the imposing Tyrant that stalked players throughout large portions of Resident Evil 2 and its Remake. Mr. X became just as synonymous with RE 2 that most expected Lady Dimitrescu to do the same. Unfortunately, Lady Dimitrescu’s pursuit in RE 8 is not nearly as menacing. As Game Rant noted in its review, it’s fairly easy to avoid Lady Dimitrescu and her AI doesn’t allow for that same type of relentless pursuit as Mr. X.

All told, Lady Dimitrescu has some cool moments in Resident Evil Village, but her role is nowhere near what some players thought. And most of the key scenes that Lady Dimitrescu is involved in were already spoiled by trailers or gameplay demos, which highlighted the early Village and Castle portions of Resident Evil 8. For as much as the marketing put a focus on her, there was an expectation that the final game simply couldn’t deliver on.

The Mortal Kombat Movie Connection

Interestingly, Resident Evil Village seems to have the same problem as the recently released Mortal Kombat movie and its portrayal of Scorpion. Like Lady Dimitrescu, Scorpion was part of every trailer and was billed as a key part of the movie, but his role is much smaller in the grand scheme of things. Moreover, elements that the marketing seemed to emphasize in small bursts through trailers were not as impactful when taken as a whole in the finished film.

Scorpion arguably has more going for him in Mortal Kombat than Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village - he is an integral character to the story and the franchise's future - but there is still a disappointing nature to his depiction. Of his two scenes in the film, one was released as part of promotion for Mortal Kombat and the other (which is the climax of the movie, by the way) was extensively featured in trailers. But the quick cuts of trailers helped hide how clunky some of the choreography in that final Scorpion vs. Sub Zero showdown is.

Two huge releases for video game fans and two characters that seemingly were seen as major selling points. Lady Dimitrescu and Scorpion simply couldn’t live up to the hype surrounding their appearances pre-release and some fans were left disappointed. Both characters did have some cool moments in their respective roles, but compared to what fans thought they were getting, the eventual depiction was a far cry.
