Though its release is still a few months away, Resident Evil Village fans are excitedly awaiting the game's arrival. While waiting for a digital copy of a game to download is a fact of life for players, knowing how much space one needs to be able to install the title is important, and now gamers can get an idea of how much room it will take.

The recent trailers for Resident Evil Village have impressed players with their visuals, and those graphics will take up a fair amount of space. While gamers can play the latest Resident Evil with either last-gen systems, PCs, or the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, anyone who picks up the game will need to ensure that they have enough available hard drive space to download and install it.

Courtesy of a Microsoft Store listing, players now have an idea of what to expect. The Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions of Resident Evil Village are slated to take up 50.02 GB of space. This a notable increase from Resident Evil 7, more than doubling the file size it required on all of its available platforms. Of course, times have changed since then, and graphics continue to evolve and become more technologically demanding.

With Resident Evil Village being a cross-generation game, it's likely set to make the absolute most of what the prior generation of consoles can do, while simultaneously taking advantage of the power of newer systems. Despite the difference in capabilities, though, it's interesting to note that there's no indication that the file size will differ between the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.

Though Resident Evil Village is a step up in file size from RE 7, it's still relatively lightweight in terms of space usage. While some developers still manage to efficiently compress their games to save space, many players are no doubt used to the reality of games surging towards 200 GB these days. This has even led to concerns of games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare not fitting on players' hard drives. For most players, clearing out roughly 50 GB of space shouldn't be a huge burden.

While there are still a lot of mysteries about Resident Evil Village, the file size is no longer one of them. However, gamers who plan to pick up the title on anything other than an Xbox should still expect that there may be a slight variance in file sizes between systems. With Resident Evil 7, the console versions of the game took up approximately 20 GB, but PC players needed to clear an additional 4 GB. As such, making a little extra space to be on the safe side couldn't hurt.

Resident Evil Village will release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on May 7.
