Resident Evil Re:Verse was meant to be a title that celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the long running horror franchise. With a delay to 2022 though, it looks like Re:Verse will be celebrating Resident Evil's 26th Anniversary.

Re:Verse was announced this past January, and was supposed to launch alongside Resident Evil: Village in May. The game pits players in four to six-person matches, where they control iconic series characters. Players start as humans like Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield, and upon death, transform into some of the franchise's most horrifying bioweapons, like Nemesis and the Molded. The game is meant to be a celebration of Resident Evil's history, so it is expected to be brimming with references.

Capcom announced via the official Resident Evil Twitter account that Re:Verse is being delayed to 2022. The game's launch has been pushed back so that the development team can create a "smooth gameplay experience." In a follow-up tweet, Capcom encourages fans to keep track of their vouchers and download codes for when Re:Verse eventually launches. It may not be a surprise that Re:Verse was delayed though, considering its rough beta cycle.

When the Re:Verse open beta began prior to Village's release, it became quickly clear the undesirable state that the game was in. Capcom had to suspend the beta just a few hours in because players were having significant trouble matchmaking. This is obviously why developers put their games through open beta tests, to expose troublesome problems, but it is nonetheless discouraging that the game was not at least in a playable state when it needed to be. Hopefully with the extended development time, Capcom can truly iron out the kinks and polish Re:Verse to be the fun, nostalgia trip that the series deserves.

The Resident Evil franchise has made many attempts in branching into the multiplayer sphere before Re:Verse. There were more focused attempts like in Resident Evil 5 and 6 which allowed players to play through the games' campaigns cooperatively. Other attempts have been a bit messier, like the lazy Umbrella Corps. online third person shooter, and last year's Resistance, a 4 vs. 1 shooter where human players fight against a player controlled monster. Most recently, Resident Evil crossed over with Dead By Daylight, bringing Leon, Jill and the iconic Nemesis into the terrifying multiplayer game.

Resident Evil Re:Verse is currently set to release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
