'Resident Evil: Revelations' Story Trailer Is Confusing

Resident Evil Revelations Story Trailer

Capcom's latest Resident Evil series installment, Resident Evil: Revelations has a brand new trailer that does a bit more to detail what the game's story is about, and that it's not just focusing on Jill Valentine skulking around on an abandoned boat to investigate mysterious biological hazards. The trailer however, is pretty puzzling as to explaining what the actual story is and it introduces new characters with no exposition.

Actual trailers for Resident Evil: Revelations have stuck with showing off Jill Valentine as the main protagonist, but newer trailers, like the TGS 2011 trailer, have introduced some new characters here and there. This latest one pulls out all stops and just scoops a medley of new characters on to your plate to sift through and wonder who they are in curiosity. Also introduced in the trailer is ANOTHER anti bio-hazard agency, the FBA (Federal Bio-terrorism Commission).

One thing to note in the trailer is the direction in which the Resident Evil story is heading. No longer are threats limited to single incidents in somewhat isolated areas. These monstrous things are starting to hit big cities and, of course, government countermeasures like the FBA or BSAA (Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance) have been formed to combat these threats.

The villains are the Veltro terrorist group and they are now utilizing bio-weapons to wage their war of attrition, which has struck the city of Terragrigia. That's the bare bones story right there. Obviously, as Jill Valentine, the player's role will be to investigate further into the who/what/where/why of the group, while of course needing to shoot things that try to kill you.

Capcom also announced a second feature to Revelations, called "Raid Mode," which will be a solo or cooperative affair where players can earn points to upgrade characters or weapons. More details will be coming later in the week.

Revelations will be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 5 and is an indicator of where the series will be going when it comes to Resident Evil 6, which is currenting getting a thorough makeover. Storywise, the threats are growing and the stakes are higher and it's actually starting to be a little more interesting to see how the world deals with these threats on a global scale.

Resident Evil: Revelations releases January 7, 2012 for Nintendo 3DS.
