On March 19, one week ago, Capcom released the Raccoon City demo for Resident Evil 3 At the time, Capcom also announced plans for an open beta for Resident Evil Resistance planned to start on March 27. Resident Evil Resistance is a multiplayer mode that will be bundled with Resident Evil 3 at launch. Unfortunately, plans have gone awry. Due to technical issues with the open beta as it launched, Capcom has been forced to delay it on both PC and PS4.

The Resident Evil Resistance open beta planned for March 27 did originally launch as planned, yet issues were immediately apparent. Within a few hours of the open beta unlocking, the official Resident Evil Twitter account confirmed that there were technical issues with matchmaking. At the time, Capcom assured players that it was working on a solution and that players should look forward to an update soon. Users on PC and PS4 were able to try and play for another five hours before Capcom pulled the plug.

Five hours after first acknowledging the technical issues, Capcom made a second post on Twitter saying that it was officially delaying Resident Evil Resistance. The delay is only for PC and PS4, though, as the Xbox One version is seemingly running fine.

The only reason for the delay cited is that there were "matchmaking issues" with the Resident Evil Resistance open beta. Early indications are that players simply weren't able to get into matches. It's unclear if this affected all players on PC and PS4 or if it only affected a portion of players.

There's no current timeline for the Resident Evil Resistance open beta's return on PC and PS4. If Capcom believed the issue could be handled in a short period of time, it likely would have left the open beta up. That it took the beta down and that it  "delayed" the beta hints at a bigger issue that may take more time. However, with the Xbox One version working, perhaps that means Capcom knows the problem and can get things sorted quickly.

Capcom's bigger worry at this point should be the full launch of Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Resistance. There's less than a week until the bundled Resident Evil games launch. That means that any current matchmaking issues in Resident Evil Resistance have to be resolved very fast. It'd be a shame if the mode was unavailable come launch, when players have already paid for their games. Expect updates from Capcom as they're made available.

Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Resistance release April 3 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
