The future of AAA horror games seems bright as rumors continue to appear about a potentially gruesome Resident Evil 8 in development at Capcom. The company has seen a fair amount of success reinvigorating its iconic series with the release of Resident Evil 7 and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3; the latter of which continuing to see content on account of its asymmetrical multiplayer component Resident Evil: Resistance.

The official Resident Evil Twitter account announced Wednesday that Resident Evil: Resistance's newest Mastermind, Nicholai Ginovaef, would be released by the end of the week. He is now available to play, and Masterminds can also make use of Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 if they download the most recent update. Nicholai is skilled with tracking and camera-mounted firearms, and he is willing to do anything "for the right price" according to Capcom USA Social Media & Community Associate Manager Kellen Haney in a PlayStation Blog post about the update.

Resistance pits four players who are "Survivors" against a single "Mastermind" controlling an experiment they must escape from. The game's newest Mastermind, Nicholai, was announced in April shortly after the release of Jill Valentine as a Survivor, however it's currently unknown what will be releasing in June as the most recent title roadmap put out April 17 obscures the month with yellow construction tape.

While not as widely discussed as other multiplayer titles and battle royales, including Epic Games' Fortnite or Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends, Resident Evil: Resistance offers a fun cooperative activity for fans of the long-running horror franchise to return to while potentially stuck at home. New playable character additions have already contributed to its charm, as Jill Valentine's dialogue quips reference popular lines from her various appearances.

While the multiplayer game continues to see content releases, Capcom is also busy working on new titles. During its end-of-fiscal-year financial presentation, Capcom announced it wants to release 13 new titles for this fiscal year. With Resident Evil 3 already taking up three slots for various platforms, there may be more big Resident Evil plans coming.

Even if the company is not working on Resident Evil 8 like many believe, fans may be able to expect Resident Evil 4 making a comeback to follow up its previous two title. No matter what the developers have planned, new additions like Nicholai to Resistance should keep people occupied for some time to come.

Resident Evil Resistance is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, alongside Resident Evil 3.
