The Resident Evil movies have so far not made a great effort to be faithful to the original video game series, borrowing some characters and concepts but otherwise not having much in common with their inspiration. The upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot, titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, will be much more faithful to the source material, as evidenced by some of the first official images that have been released for the film.

IGN has revealed a set of new Resident Evil movie reboot images that show a film embracing the characters and stories from the first two Resident Evil games. The first image shows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield in some kind of basement or underground area, donning outfits that don't look far off from what they wear in the Resident Evil 2 video game. The second image shows the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team arriving at the Spencer Estate mansion.

In this image, fans can catch a glimpse of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, and Richard Aiken as they will appear in the film. Hardcore Resident Evil fans may be confused at Richard's inclusion, as his role in the past has been as part of Bravo team, but it seems that his story is getting tweaked for the new Resident Evil movie. Usually one would expect to see Barry Burton in Richard's position in the film, but there's no sign that Barry is in the movie reboot.

And finally, the last image shows the horrifying Lisa Trevor, confirming a previous theory that she would be appearing the Resident Evil movie reboot. Lisa Trevor's backstory is one of the most depressing in all of Resident Evil, and she is often considered one of the scariest monsters in the history of the franchise. While not a perfect 1:1 adaptation of how Lisa looks in the game, her appearance in the movie is still plenty unsettling and should sufficiently freak out moviegoers.

Besides Lisa Trevor, Resident Evil fans can count on other iconic monsters from the series to make an appearance in the movie. Zombies are a given, but it will be interesting to see what other creatures made the cut. Perhaps fans will get to see the original Tyrant on the big screen, or maybe they will get to see Lickers in action again.

The Resident Evil movie reboot release date is only a few months away, so marketing on the film will likely ramp up soon. Maybe a trailer will give fans a look at some of the other monsters that will be appearing in the movie besides Lisa Trevor.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City premieres November 24, 2021.
