A newly completed mod brings back the awful voice acting from 1996's Resident Evil to the recently released Resident Evil HD remake, and the results are magical.

Earlier this year, Resident Evil fans learned about a gamer working on a mod to bring the original games’ awful voice acting to the HD remake of the original 1996 Resident Evil. Now, nine months later, the modder has completed the "masterpiece" for all PC gamers to enjoy.

After Capcom's Resident Evil HD was released with new and updated voice acting, many fans of the original game were hoping for a way to revive the original audio. That’s when the modder, known as Bunny, stepped up to the challenge in January.

According to Bunny, it took a little longer than expected, but they stuck with and completed the project. According to Bunny, who posted on the Resident Evil Modding Forum:

"It's finally here! The mod that will bring back the awesome voice acting from the original 1996 Resident Evil. It took me a long time to finish this mod mainly because there were more than 500 audio files to edit. And the dialogues were already mixed with sound effects like footsteps, gunshots, enemies, etc. So at some point the editing process became tedious and I had to take breaks more often."

That’s some impressive dedication on the part of Bunny. Many modders would have given up after learning the act wouldn’t be as simple as copy and paste. Thankfully, Bunny understood the importance of such a feat for Resident Evil fans everywhere, and wasn't stopped by Capcom during the process.

Some people may wonder why someone would put forth so much effort to bring back a feature that’s hallowed as some of the worst voice acting in gaming history. However, Resident Evil is one of the few examples where the lousy voice acting is a big part of what makes the game memorable. It’s just not the same without it.

This simple addition to Resident Evil HD is enough to make any fan pick up the title and give it another go. As awful as the original was, the cringe worthy voice acting alongside the updated graphics is pure gaming gold, and we are all in debt to Bunny for putting forth the effort to make this a reality.
