Resident Evil fans have begun to create hilarious memes about Martin Sandwich. Martin Sandwich is one of the confirmed playable characters in Resident Evil Resistance, the multiplayer mode in the Resident Evil 3 remake, and fans think his name is incredibly funny.

After Capcom announced the character of Martin Sandwich, it didn't take long for Resident Evil fans to start making jokes about his name. Unsurprisingly, many of the jokes used the Jill Sandwich meme. In the first Resident Evil, a character named Barry Burton saves Jill Valentine from a ceiling trap and, with some terrible voice acting, he says that she nearly became a "Jill Sandwich."

Writer Scott Duwe asked if Martin and Jill are brother and sister in a tweet that 165 likes. Resident Evil community manager Katastrophe also had some fun with the name, joking that his parents must have said "you almost became a Martin Sandwich... Oh wait, you did." Another fan suggested that Barry should really get his royalty checks for this.

Other Resident Evil fans took things in a different direction. One fan wondered if Capcom had created the name Martin Sandwich by looking at the list of American sounding names from the game Fighting Baseball. The Japanese developers of that game had created the names "Bobson Dugnutt" and "Rey McSriff" and some may be disappointed that this isn't what Capcom went for. One streamer asked if the game's developers had spent time watching Drake and Josh because Martin Sandwich really does look like actor Josh Peck.

The memes are funny and the response from the game's community manager seems to suggest that Capcom is enjoying all of the jokes. However, the company will hope that all of the talk about the game on social media can be turned into sales. Some have argued that the Resident Evil 3 remake shouldn't be so expensive and that while it does come with multiplayer, it shouldn't be priced at $60. Price is always important to gamers and Capcom will really have to try to show fans that they're getting a huge amount of gameplay for that price.

If Capcom is able to get past that, then the Resident Evil 3 remake could potentially be a big success. The Resident Evil 2 remake sold more copies than the original in much less time. It's unclear if the Resident Evil 3 remake will do that well, but may some will buy it just to say hello to Martin Sandwich.

Resident Evil 3 is set to release on April 3, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
