The upcoming Netflix animated movie, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, will be receiving its own limited edition run of the Cocalero drink. This will release along with the upcoming movie in July, which will mark one of three upcoming Resident Evil projects.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an upcoming movie set in Capcom's Resident Evil universe and takes place between the 4th and 5th installment of the mainline series. This movie follows both federal agent Leon S. Kennedy and TerraSave member Claire Redfield as they once again team up to investigate a zombie outbreak within the White House.

Cocalero is an herbal spirit made from the South American coca leaf along with 16 other plants. It's often enjoyed ice-cold, used as a replacement for rum in a mojito, and can be enjoyed in cocktails. This new drink will be getting a "Biohazard" edition to its design, which fits its sharp bright green color that's very reminiscent of the zombies of Resident Evil.

Resident Evil Infinite Darkness

Resident Evil has been on the rise as of late. With an upcoming Netflix movie this summer, a live-action movie reboot on the way, and an eighth video game installment that broke the internet this month due to its tall female antagonist named Lady Dimitrescu, it's safe to say that the zombie franchise will be here to stay for a while. Now it's breaking territory that many video game properties don't enter, which is food, beverages, and desserts.

Resident Evil is a long-running series and has stood tall amongst its other survival horror competitors. It stands out for the reason of having multiple movie installments, multiple sub-series, animated movies, comics, novels, merchandise, and now even its own limited drink. Silent Hill, Amnesia, Dead Space (to name a few) are not as prominent as of now. Right now, there isn't much competition besides the recent titles that gamers are enjoying, such as Outlast and Evil Within.

Some may put off by this upcoming product. It's not safe to say that everyone in the Resident Evil fanbase drinks alcohol and with the new beverage being limited, this may be more of a collector's item than something to drink and enjoy. Here's to hoping that Capcom releases more edible products related to their properties that much more of its fanbase can and enjoy. Despite that, this is a great start and a great move for the critically acclaimed survival horror franchise.
