PlayStation 4 is turning back the clock and adding yet another retro game to its library of PlayStation 2 originals. Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Code Veronica X will launch for PlayStation 4 this week as part of the console's PS2 Classics collection.

The news broke on the official Resident Evil Twitter account, where Capcom shared a post stating, "Resident Evil Code Veronica X is coming to PS2 Classics next week on PS4." The title will be available on May 9 in North America, and will release a day later, on May 10, to Resident Evil fans in Europe.

Resident Evil Code Veronica X is an updated version of Capcom's original title, simply titled Resident Evil Code Veronica, first released for the Dreamcast in 2000. A slightly tweaked edition of the title, which tacked on the and featured nine additional minutes of cutscene footage as well as a handful of graphical enhancements, arrived to Sony's PlayStation 2 the following year. In 2011, a high-definition remaster was released for the modern-at-the-time systems, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

The survival horror game is the fourth major installment in the massive Resident Evil game franchise, and is the very first title in the series to launch on a non-Sony platform, as its three predecessors all saw initial launches on the PlayStation. Resident Evil Code Veronica X picks up three months after the vents of 1998's Resident Evil 2 and the Raccoon City destruction featured in 1999's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Claire and Chris Redfield are at the heart of the game's narrative, and players follow their struggle to survive in a world ravaged by a viral outbreak.

The impending release of Resident Evil Code Veronica X sits alongside another much-anticipated debut: Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, the remastered collection of the iconic game series first released for the PlayStation 1. It certainly seems that taking a look back on the titles that came before our modern-day successes is a running trend, and could mean that fans will see additional remasters and upgraded re-releases in the near future.

Resident Evil Code Veronica X will be available for PS4 on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in North America and on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Europe.
