Resident Evil 8 is a game that has been shrouded in mystery ever since it was first unveiled during the PS5 reveal showcase. With the finer details surrounding this game being few and far between, as is to be expected of an upcoming Resident Evil title, the Resident Evil 8 showcase that happened earlier today was a much-needed info dump for expectant fans. One detail likely surprised many during the showcase.

Ever since it was first announced, fans have drawn many comparisons to Resident Evil 4, as there are many similarities between the two games. Both take place in a remote region, populated with castles and gothic architecture. Resident Evil 8 also utilizes an inventory management system that is very similar to the one present in Resident Evil 4. Of course, in the recent showcase, a new character was introduced that draws an even bigger comparison to Resident Evil 4.

A character named The Duke was introduced during the Resident Evil 8 showcase who serves an identical role to the merchant in Resident Evil 4. The merchant is arguably one of the most iconic characters in Resident Evil, though they only appear in Resident Evil 4. To see him reincarnated into this hefty, robed, and jovial man in a cart is sure to make a lot of old-school fans nostalgic.

This begs to question how else this game will compare to Resident Evil 4. With rumors of a potential remake of Resident Evil 4, it will be interesting to see how Resident Evil 8 is similar and different from its contemporary. It also has to live up to the massive success of Resident Evil 7, which left many fans impressed and excited for what's to come.

In addition to The Duke, quite a lot of additional content was announced for Resident Evil 8. However, one detail that a lot of people will surely grab onto is the PS5 exclusive demo for Resident Evil 8. The demo for Resident Evil 7 starring Clancy Jarvis drew in a lot of players and revealed bits and pieces of the story that was to come in the full game. Admittedly, a lot of information regarding the overarching story for Resident Evil 8 has been revealed already, but a lot of the lore surrounding these new characters and environment will likely be shown off in its demo.

It will be interesting to see what else Capcom has in store, not just for Resident Evil 8, but the franchise as a whole. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil, and it's clear that Capcom has a lot for its fans. With the showcase revealed, all fans can do is just sit back and wait for more news.

Resident Evil 8 is set to release on May 7, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
