While the last couple of Resident Evil games have been remakes, it seems as though Capcom is finally ready to move the franchise forward. Rumors are swirling that Capcom is going to produce Resident Evil 8 next, and apparently, survival-horror fans won't have to wait all that long to get their hands on the game.

This is according to AestheticGamer, who has accurately leaked Resident Evil news in the past. Apparently, Resident Evil 8 is aiming to release in January 2021, which would mirror the Resident Evil 2 and 7 release dates. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is potentially disrupting Capcom's development of Resident Evil 8, and so the game could end up being delayed. If so, AestheticGamer believes that the new Resident Evil 8 release date will fall in the January-March 2021 window.

This matches up with Capcom's own Resident Evil teases, with the company suggesting that it has something big and RE-related to release by March 2021. As for when fans will get an official confirmation of Resident Evil 8, that remains to be seen, but there appears to be a couple of distinct opportunities in the near future that seem the most likely candidates for RE8 reveal dates.

For one, it's possible that Capcom will reveal Resident Evil 8 alongside the PlayStation 5. The PS5 reveal hasn't been announced yet, but it's expected to take place Wednesday, June 3, according to the latest reports. Capcom has announced other Resident Evil games as part of PlayStation events, and so it wouldn't be a stretch for it to do so with Resident Evil 8 as well. However, with Sony supposedly showing off a PS5 exclusive Silent Hill reboot at its PS5 event, it stands to reason that it may want to keep RE8 away so that it doesn't draw attention away from its exclusive horror game.

If that's the case, the other date that seems likely is June 10. Capcom has supposedly revealed to members of the Resident Evil Ambassador program that the Resident Evil 8 reveal will take place on June 10, but that remains unconfirmed at the time of this writing. We do know that there will be a number of big gaming events throughout June as part of the Summer Game Fest, and so a June announcement does seem likely.

Whenever Capcom decides to announce Resident Evil 8, it will be interesting to see if the rumors about the game are true. For the uninitiated, Resident Evil 8 is rumored to be first-person, with some significant departures from franchise norms. Resident Evil fans should find out the truth sooner rather than later.

Resident Evil 8 is rumored to be in development.
