Resident Evil 2 just came out, but now fans of Capcom's survival-horror franchise are looking to what the future holds. Many are holding out hope for a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake, but others are excited to see the series move forward, and are wondering what Resident Evil 8 has in store. While we still have no official details on the game, a Twitter account claiming to have sources at Capcom may have just leaked the first details.

Twitter account EVIL VR, who leaked information on Resident Evil 2 throughout the past year, claims that Resident Evil 8 will be set on an "recently-abandoned island" where a "secret laboratory" is located. According to the leaker, this lab is where Eveline, the main antagonist of Resident Evil 7, was created, and similar bioweapons are being produced there.

EVIL VR also went on to say that concepts from Resident Evil 3.5, the more supernatural version of Resident Evil 4 shown to the press before the game was overhauled, are being borrowed for Resident Evil 8. EVIL VR makes direct reference to the "Hook Man" demo in particular, but later clarified that the Hook Man enemy itself will not necessarily be part of Resident Evil 8.

Instead, other concepts from the Hook Man version of Resident Evil 3.5 will be used in the supposed Resident Evil 8. This will include the use of hallucinations to trick the player and make them question "what's real or not." EVIL VR cautions people to take this information with a "grain of salt" as their source has been wrong in the past, and since Resident Evil 8 is still in the earliest stages of development, these concepts could change when the game is actually announced.

Since EVIL VR has suggested that Resident Evil 8 will be like the Resident Evil 3.5 concept, it's possible the game could be more in line with Resident Evil 4 than Resident Evil 7. After all, Resident Evil 3.5 eventually became Resident Evil 4, and even had similar mechanics, including the over-the-shoulder camera. However, it would also be odd for Capcom to abandon the first-person viewpoint already, especially after Resident Evil 7's success.

Of course, it's possible that there is no truth to any of these leaks. We know that Resident Evil 8 is in development in some capacity, but fans will just have to wait for Capcom to be ready to share more information to learn more about the project.

Resident Evil 8 is rumored to be in development for unspecified consoles.
