Resident Evil 8 is one of Capcoms' most anticipated titles coming to next gen in 2021. Since the initial reveal in June fans have been clamoring for new details and while a new trailer is rumored to be released next month, a few new details may have leaked about the game's enemies, inventory management, and a mysterious new character, thanks to a report put together by Biohazard Declassified.

A few months ago, some lucky fans got to participate in Capcom's Ambassador program. Those selected were invited to play test a new project within the company and although it was never officially announced, Resident Evil 8 seems to have been the focus. This particular segment focuses on Resident Evil 8 protagonist Ethan Winters exploring a castle within the game.

The castle, like many of the series settings before it, is full of ominously lit rooms and locked doors that can only be open with specific keys. While exploring, play testers ran into a mysterious old woman dressed in robes who wasn't an enemy. According to the leaked details, this women has a lot in common with a certain helpful merchant in Resident Evil 4 as she sells items and can provide the player with rumors and hints, similar to the maps sold to Leon in Resident Evil 4.  This same woman can be seen in the Resident Evil 8 reveal trailer.

During the play test players were able to use a a handgun, shotgun, and a knife to use in combat. In addition to the knife other melee weapons were able to be found, though it seems some are breakable. While venturing through the castle, players were able to find crates and vases that contained items and ammo when broken. When checking out the items collected in the inventory menu, game-play paused similarly to Resident Evil 2 remake and the menu itself had similarities to Resident Evil 4 with players being able to organize it as they see fit.

Players encountered a boss similar to Resident Evil 7's Marguerite Baker. Once entering a room players were attacked by a witch that would use insects to attack whenever the player was spotted. Ethan is able to grab a torch to disperse the insects off of the witch leaving an opening for her to be shot. In classic Resident Evil fashion the witch transforms into a spider-like monstrosity barely resembling a human and unleashing more insects.  After defeating her, players were rewarded with an item that presumably opened up more areas within the game.

Resident Evil 8 is shaping up to be Capcom's biggest entry in the horror franchise yet. Capcom is willing to take risks with the series including making changes to classic entries being remade like Resident Evil 4. While fans may have to wait a while until the game is released, leaks and rumors are helping quell the anticipation of the game until its release on next gen consoles.

Resident Evil 8 will launch on the PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
