Ever since the release of Resident Evil 7 back in 2017, rumors about how the series will move forward with the still unannounced Resident Evil 8, began to surface online. Now, it appears that new details about the game have recently emerged, but players should remember that these are still just rumors, given that Capcom still hasn't even confirmed that Resident Evil 8 is in development.

The new information came from a tip that was sent to Biohazard Declassified but the identity of the leaker wasn't revealed. According to the anonymous source, Resident Evil 8 will see the return of Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters. Just like the last entry in the long-time survival horror franchise, rumors claim that Resident Evil 8 will be played from a first-person perspective, which may cause quite a stir within the Resident Evil community. For quite some time now, the point of view to which the game is played has been a longstanding point of debate among Resident Evil fans, given that some welcomed first-person, others preferred over-the-shoulder, while purists stand by the fixed camera angles that defined the classic era of Resident Evil games.

It has also been revealed that just like in Resident Evil 7, series veteran Chris Redfield will make some sort of an appearance, though it is still unclear how big his involvement in Resident Evil 8 will be. The rumored game will also reportedly bring back classic zombies along with new enemy types in the form of werewolf-like creatures, and a new main antagonist that will consistently pursue players. Not much has been said about the main villain of Resident Evil 8 apart from it being a ghost-like female entity that will vanish into thin air when shot.

It has also been reported that the upcoming sequel will take place in a small village that will eventually take the player to a castle surrounded by a rural, snowy, and mountainous environment. Moreover, the game may not even be called Resident Evil 8, which if true, will be the first mainline entry in the series that does not sport a number. Instead, rumors claim that Capcom will come up with a clever title, though details about this are still unclear.

Several days ago, another rumormonger called AestheticGamer, shared on Twitter that Resident Evil 8's development was scrapped in 2016, and was just restarted last year. The Twitter user went on to reveal that Capcom has no plans for further Resident Evil remakes after Resident Evil 3 for the next few years. However, the Japanese developer and publisher is reportedly developing a reboot of another franchise, which many believe to be Dino Crisis.
