New information about Capcom's in-development Resident Evil titles has been shared by an increasingly reliable rumormonger. According to this new information, Capcom scrapped its plans for Resident Evil 8 as recently as mid-2019. Fans hoping for a new Resident Evil sequel in addition to the current wave of remakes don't have to worry, though. A new version of Resident Evil 8 quickly went into development, but it's going to be some ways off as a result.

Capcom rumormonger AestheticGamer shared the new Resident Evil information via Twitter Tuesday morning. AestheticGamer has at least a partially reliable track record for Capcom and Resident Evil news. For instance, they confirmed Resident Evil 3 remake in March 2019, saying that it was closer than some might expect. Resident Evil 3 remake has since been announced and confirmed for release on April 3. His insider information proved correct, lending his new Resident Evil 8 rumors credibility.

The canceled version of Resident Evil 8 was said to be in development since late 2016 only to be canceled mid-2019. However, its development was paused in 2017 so that Capcom could focus on Resident Evil 7's DLC and Resident Evil 2 Remake. It's unclear why the project was canceled, but it did have a reasonable amount of development invested in it. The timing could indicate that Capcom was so pleased with Resident Evil 2 Remake's success that it decided to move Resident Evil 8 in a similar direction.

A new version of Resident Evil 8 is said to have started development, says AestheticGamer. He notes that this version, picking up after the last version's cancellation, hasn't even been in development for a year and so might be some time off. It may build off some of the previous Resident Evil 8's plans, which could hurry development, but Capcom's focus on remakes could show there's no rush at the company to get Resident Evil 8 finished, too.

AestheticGamer then lays out a surprisingly detailed outlook at Capcom's future release plans. They say that, following Resident Evil 3's release, Capcom won't be putting out any further Resident Evil remakes for "the next few years." However, there are other Capcom classics being rebooted that are similar to the Resident Evil reboots that are also being made in the new Resident Evil engine. There is, also, another Resident Evil game that isn't a remake or Resident Evil 8 that will launch in 2021.

If AestheticGamer's leaks prove true, which isn't a guarantee whatsoever, the next several years are going to be very exciting for Capcom fans.

Resident Evil 8 has yet to be officially announced or confirmed by Capcom.
