Resident Evil 8 isn't due for release until next year, but fans already have plenty of theories about the game and what will happen to its characters. One character that has been the subject of much discussion is Chris Redfield, who appears to be taking an almost antagonistic role in the new game. And now a new piece of official Resident Evil 8 art may tease a rather shocking transformation for the fan favorite character.

As pointed out by AestheticGamer and others online, a new Resident Evil 8 image has appeared on Steam. The image is similar to some previously-released Resident Evil 8 key art, with Chris Redfield looking down on a dimly-lit European village. However, the difference is that in this image, half of Chris Redfield's face is a wolf. This could very well be an indication that the Resident Evil 8 werewolf, or one of them at least, is actually Chris Redfield.

Of course, it's possible that fans are looking too much into this image. Another possibility is that the image is just meant to show that both Chris Redfield and werewolves will be a part of the Resident Evil 8 experience, and is not necessarily pointing to him transforming into one of the beasts. However, with the image apparently being used as part of official Resident Evil 8 promotional material, one has to imagine that some clarification from Capcom will come sooner rather than later.

According to the latest leaks and rumors, the Resident Evil 8 release date will be some point in April 2021, with a demo set to come before that. Whether or not there's any truth to these leaks and rumors remains to be seen, but if so, fans should have their answers in a matter of month. Much of the Resident Evil 8 story is being kept underwraps, though, so it's possible that if Chris Redfield is a werewolf in Resident Evil 8 that Capcom will still keep that particular piece of information to itself.

Until Capcom itself decides to share more information, all fans can do is speculate about what Resident Evil 8's story may entail and how it will impact its characters. The previously-released Resident Evil 8 trailers hint at a rather harrowing journey for protagonist Ethan Winters, and it will be interesting to see how he manages to get out of alive. Assuming he makes it to the end of the game, that is.

In the meantime, Resident Evil fans may want to make sure that they tune in to upcoming events like The Game Awards, just in case Capcom decides to drop a new Resident Evil 8 trailer.
