With the Resident Evil community seeing even more popularity with the release of Resident Evil 7 and the following Resident Evil 8, the fanbase has been more active than it ever has before. The games are well known for their chase scenes and horrifying moments, but many fans are able to stomach these scenes due to it simply being a game on a screen. With the addition of VR to many games, especially horror, even old time fans have found themselves horrified at scenes they have seen plenty of times prior.

Resident Evil is a series of games centered mainly around the zombie survival theme, with a multitude of monsters thrown into the bunch to keep the game different from many others of the same genre. With the most recent two games, RE 7 and Village drawing the attention of many streamers, the popularity of the series has reached newfound heights amongst the gaming populace, even scoring itself a cross-over with Rainbow Six Siege.

As many horror games gain compatability with VR consoles, the horror genre of videogames takes on a whole new meaning of scary. In this scene posted by a fan, their relative hilariously flails about in their living room during the chase scene where Ethan is running from Jack Baker. As the player of the game barely holds onto the remote, Jack repeatedly makes his way towards Ethan, menacingly approaching until he is within striking range. As the relative continually screams throughout the encounter, bystanders have to grab ahold of them before they are able to physically run into things in the room. The player's reaction is absolutely something to see.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the Resident Evil series is its single style of gameplay, horror. While there are definitely horror aspects to the series, much of the game is spent in action packed sprints where evading an unbeatable opponent is the primary objective. Especially in VR, turning around and seeing the menacing bad guy hot on one's trail definitely gets the blood pumping, and the physical reaction to this is hysterically funny to watch. The bystanders in the room having to seriously hold back the player makes for an incredibly funny scene that could only happen with this kind of gameplay.

There are many games with a similar atmosphere getting VR adaptions of their own, enhancing the gameplay experience to brand new heights. Back in the real world, it's up to cosplayers of Resident Evil to keep scaring fans.

Resident Evil 7 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
