Resident Evil 7's latest short trailer details the protagonist Ethan fighting off a member of the Baker family with a pistol, with horrifying results.

Capcom's reveal of Resident Evil 7 was extremely enigmatic, and even now, the mystery surrounding the supernatural Baker family remains. However, Capcom is releasing trailers one at a time showing small snippets of what gamers can expect, and the latest reveals some of the game's combat against a member of the Baker family.

Volume 6 of the Resident Evil 7 teasers is entitled The Immortal, and fittingly so. It shows a scene of the playable protagonist Ethan already severely wounded from being bludgeoned multiple times by Jack Baker, the patriarch of the cannibalistic Baker family. Jack Baker doesn't react at all to the first shot Ethan fires at him, but just before Jack Baker goes for the final blow, Ethan fires off another, killing his combatant. The relief is short-lived, however, as Jack Baker gets back up a few moments later, seemingly unharmed but even angrier than before.

This trailer helps to shed a little light on how the first-person combat in Resident Evil 7 will work, and it's yet another demonstration that the Baker family is anything but normal. In addition to their cannibalistic habits, it seems that at least Jack Baker will keep getting back up, even if the player uses their limited weaponry on him. This only adds to the tension the Baker family will provide, considering that they were already considered unbeatable based on the VR Resident Evil 7 demos released so far. Members of the Baker family have previously been shown to be able to withstand exploding cars, so gamers will have to find out for themselves if there's a way to defeat them, or if they must simply be avoided for the duration of the game.

It's far from the first time that an enemy has appeared in the Resident Evil series that initially appeared to be completely unstoppable. If Resident Evil 7 follows the classic formula, Ethan should be able to defeat the Bakers once and for all once their weakness is discovered. However, the game's weapons shouldn't be considered completely useless, as Capcom has previously stated that zombie-like enemies will appear in Resident Evil 7, which will presumably be more susceptible to weapons. However, choosing whether to use ammo on the zombie-like enemies or preserving it to slow down a member of the Baker clan will probably become one of players' most difficult decisions to make.

With just three months until Resident Evil 7's release, Capcom is doing a fine job of building excitement over the game without revealing too much. Most Resident Evil fans were probably already dreading their first encounter with the Baker family, and learning that Jack Baker can withstand nearly anything is probably only intensifying that anxiety.

Resident Evil 7 will release on January 24th, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
