Capcom has revealed a few new screenshots for its Resident Evil 7 DLC, Not a Hero. While the screenshots don’t offer too many details about the upcoming story add-on, they do confirm a few gameplay favorites are returning to the mix.
For those that may not be familiar, Not a Hero picks up at the end of Resident Evil 7 and stars fan favorite hero, Chris Redfield. According to the screenshots, Chris is seeking out a high value target that may be responsible for the outbreak on the Baker plantation. By the time Resident Evil 7’s main story concludes, players think they have a good handle on the full narrative – i.e. why the Bakers have mutated and gone crazy – but Not a Hero may add new perspective to those events.
Speaking of a new perspective, the screenshots reveal that Not a Hero will feature a new HUD for Resident Evil 7 players. The HUD looks fairly standard, highlighting information like player health and ammo.
The one curious bit in the HUD is a section that says ‘Air Clear’ in the bottom left. It could be that Not a Hero features sections with contaminated air, and Chris will need to navigate those quickly to prevent any lasting damage.
These Not a Hero DLC screenshots also confirm that the melee finisher returns to Resident Evil 7, which is sure to please fans of the series. While the main game’s protagonist did have melee weapons to take out the Molded, switching between ranged and close combat was not as simple as in past games. For Not a Hero, though, it appears players will be able to stagger the Molded and then take them out with a quick punch.
While Resident Evil 7 may have taken major departures from the core formula – to great success we might add – it appears as though the Not a Hero DLC will bring some familiar elements back into the fold. Playing as Chris Redfield is sure to be a treat for fans, and the longstanding RE hero will be bringing some of his signature moves along for the ride.
As far as how substantial the DLC will be, that is anyone’s guess, but Capcom did delay the add-on by over 6 months. Hopefully that added time ensured that Not a Hero is a satisfying conclusion to the latest chapter of Resident Evil.
Resident Evil 7: Not a Hero releases December 12, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
