Players are able to collect two different handguns at the beginning of Resident Evil 7. Use this guide to locate both the handguns in the early stages of the game.

In order to survive the many horrors of the Baker family plantation in Resident Evil 7, players need to make sure protagonist Ethan Winters is properly equipped to defend himself. While he lacks the combat prowess of past Resident Evil heroes like Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, Ethan knows how to use a firearm well enough to at least delay the pursuit of the relentless Baker clan.

The first handgun players can find in Resident Evil 7 is located in the attic of the Guest House. To reach the attic, players simply need to progress through the game normally, to the point where they return to the main floor with the bolt cutters retrieved from the basement. With the bolt cutters in tow, head to the chained cupboard in the hall accessed by walking through the kitchen.

Cut the chains and inside players will find a fuse, as opposed to the VHS tape that's located there in the Beginning Hour demo. Take the fuse back to the room with the TV and place it in the fuse box on the wall. Go upstairs and press the button on the pillar to make the attic stairs drop down.

The first room in the attic will contain some handgun bullets as well as the handgun itself. Players are free to explore the rest of the attic to find more handgun ammunition lying about in plain sight. Unfortunately, due to story reasons, players lose this first handgun not too long after obtaining it.

The second handgun players can acquire is one that is with them on a more permanent basis. Players acquire this handgun in the garage, though to explain how players get the second handgun in Resident Evil 7, be warned that we must go into some spoiler territory.

To get the second handgun in Resident Evil 7, players need to make their way to the garage. Of course, getting there is easier said than done. Thanks to the dynamic Baker family encounters, avoiding Jack Baker long enough to get to the garage is a feat in and of itself, even on lower difficulties, but persistent players will learn the tricks necessary to survive.

Upon getting to the garage, players will find a cop that has brought a handgun of his own to the Baker house. This cop is not long for this world, and soon his handgun is lying on the cement floor, ripe for the taking. This is the start of a boss fight with Jack Baker in the garage, so players will want to scoop up the handgun as quickly as possible to make things a bit easier for them.

Over the course of Resident Evil 7, players will collect other firearms and weapons, but collecting the handgun at the beginning of the game is necessary to get to those points. With the handgun in tow, players should remember to conserve ammunition whenever possible, and if they need to create their own handgun ammo, it can be done by combining chemical fluid with gunpowder.
