It has been a few months since Capcom released Resident Evil Village, the latest entry in its longrunning survival horror franchise. As can be expected given other recent entries, Resident Evil Village received glowing reviews from fans and critics, with its survival horror roots and the introduction of the now-iconic Lady Dimitrescu being praised.

A month after the release of Resident Evil Village, Capcom devs confirmed at E3 2021 that the game is set to receive a DLC expansion soon. Unfortunately, Capcom did not provide details as to what the DLC will tackle. However, given how closely related Resident Evil Village is to its direct predecessor Resident Evil 7, it is fair to speculate that Capcom could follow the DLC pattern established in the 2017 game.

The Return of Another Veteran Resident Evil Character

When Resident Evil 7 was first released, fans immediately noticed how its story is relatively unrelated to previous entries in the franchise. Although the game did see the franchise's return to survival horror, none of the characters from earlier games were included in Resident Evil 7 until the very end. During the final boss fight in Resident Evil 7, players were surprised to see series veteran Chris Redfield, as he helped Ethan Winters defeat the final form of Evelyn. Of course, Chris' appearance became Resident Evil 7's link to previous games in the franchise, which was later explored in the Not a Hero DLC.

With this in mind, it is possible that Capcom would be implementing the same pattern to Resident Evil Village's upcoming DLC. While it is likely that Chris will once again star as the main playable character in the expansion, it is also possible that another veteran character will be featured in the DLC: Ada Wong. For the uninitiated, it has been reported that Ada Wong was supposed to be featured in Resident Evil Village but was eventually cut by Capcom. It is possible that she could be the main playable character in Resident Evil Village's DLC, serving as the link to the narrative set by previous games, which would be remarkably similar to Chris' role in Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil Village from the Perspective of Chris Redfield

Apart from the Not a Hero DLC, Resident Evil 7 also released another expansion called End of Zoe. This expansion focused on the arrival of Evelyn at the home of the Baker family and is seen from the perspective of Zoe Baker. It is worth remembering that Zoe was a supporting character in Resident Evil 7, and End of Zoe gave fans a more in-depth view of her overall relevance to the game's plot. Likewise, a similar expansion fleshing out the story of a supporting character could be released for Resident Evil Village, with Chris Redfield as the main character.

Similar to End of Zoe, a Chris Redfield expansion would serve the same purpose by offering players a chance to see what Chris has been up to during Ethan Winters' journey in Resident Evil Village. Given that Chris' team was able to survive the whole ordeal, it would be interesting to see what they were up to during Ethan's frantic search for his lost daughter. It is also no secret that Chris' involvement in Resident Evil Village is more in-depth than in Resident Evil 7. Given this, Capcom has tons of storylines that it could follow with a Chris Redfield DLC, such as showing events that Ethan wasn't able to witness, bring context to plotlines that were vague in the main game, and maybe even set up the story that will be explored in the next mainline Resident Evil game.

At the moment, details about Resident Evil Village's upcoming DLC are still a mystery. However, with the recent announcement that Resident Evil Re: Verse has been delayed to next year, Capcom may have decided to allocate more of its resources to developing the DLC for Resident Evil Village. As such, fans may not be waiting too much longer to learn more.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A DLC is currently in development.
