Capcom announces that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is coming to the Wii U on October 29th through the eShop, but only for gamers in Europe.

Seemingly hellbent on making sure Resident Evil 4 is released on every video game platform under the sun, Capcom has announced that they are releasing Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition on Wii U, at least for gamers in PAL regions.

Set to be available on October 29th through the eShop, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition will be sold for £17.99, but those that purchase it by November 5th can snag it at a 25% discount.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is generally considered by fans to be the best version of the game, with superior controls compared to the many other versions available. The game itself has received massive critical acclaim since it originally released in 2005, and has also been a great financial success for Capcom. Considering this, it's no surprise that Capcom has continuously gone back to Resident Evil 4, as gamers seem to have no problem buying the game multiple times over.

That being said, it would have been nice for Capcom to release a true Wii U version of Resident Evil 4 instead of simply porting the Wii Edition over. After all, the Wii Edition lacks the HD visuals of Resident Evil 4 HD, and there could be many clever ways for the game to take advantage of the Wii U's unique capabilities. For example, inventory management could be regulated to the GamePad to keep the action going at a faster pace, or things like aiming through the scope with sniper rifles could use the GamePad's motion controls.

Perhaps some new content could have been implemented as well. Fans have been playing through Leon's adventure to save the president's daughter for years, and some previous re-releases of the game at least added new missions for players to experience. If Capcom is so insistent on re-releasing Resident Evil 4 on every console possible, then the least they could do is offer returning fans a compelling reason to buy the game yet again.

With the game soon to be available on Wii U's eShop, don't be surprised to see Resident Evil 4 pop up on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. After all, Capcom has outright stated that a major part of their business model moving forward will be HD remasters thanks to the sales success of games like Resident Evil HDso it's probable that they will remaster Resident Evil 4 down the road for PS4 and Xbox One. Alternatively, the Xbox One may eventually have access to Resident Evil 4 through its soon to be implemented backward compatibility with Xbox 360.
