It's been known for a few months now that Capcom intends to bring multiple Resident Evil games to the Nintendo Switch. While there was no release window given during the initial announcement outside of a vague "2019", the developer has now revealed when all three games will be releasing.

Capcom announced today via twitter that Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 1, and Resident Evil 4 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 21st. All three games will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop, with buying options varying for the trio of games depending on region. Those in Europe will be able to buy all three titles separately, while North American Switch Owners have the option of buying the Resident Evil Origins bundle, which packs Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 1 together. Resident Evil can be purchased separately in both regions, and pre-orders are set to go live on February 28th.

Once again, Capcom is looking to some of its earlier and more popular entries in the Resident Evil franchise to make a splash on yet another system. While the series returned to its root of survival horror in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Capcom has been testing the ability to play the game via cloud services in Japan, since the Switch likely isn't powerful enough for a proper Resident Evil 7 port.

As far as other releases of Resident Evil are concerned, the recent remake of Resident Evil 2 has already been confirmed to not be coming to the Nintendo Switch, with Resident Evil 3, 4, and 6 rounding out the remaining mainline games neither announced nor coming to the Switch at this time. Considering how long it takes to get games to fit on the Nintendo Switch, this could be Capcom's way of compromising in order to get a select few titles ready to launch this Spring. For anyone who's excited by the announcement but can't wait to play Resident Evil, Capcom did release Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 in late 2017 for Switch, showing early in the console's life its commitment to porting older games.

Resident Evil 0, 1, and originally released in 2002, 1996, and 2005, respectively, and as any fans of the series know, Capcom has taken the liberty of porting multiple games in its beloved survival-horror franchise across multiple console generations. With the release of the trio of games coming to the Switch, Capcom has shown there's no end in sight to releasing its older Resident Evil games on a current platform for newcomers and long-time fans to pick up.

Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 will release on May 21st for the Nintendo Switch.
