The Resident Evil 4 remake is a mostly faithful recreation of the original Resident Evil 4 game, but there are some changes and cut content, including an entire boss fight that's been given the boot. In the original Resident Evil 4, players come across a horrific-looking enemy called the U-3, a bizarre monster that looks like a huge insect centaur.
Resident Evil 4's Leon S. Kennedy comes face to face with the U-3 during the game's divisive Island section, and the fight that plays out has proven to be equally divisive among fans over the years. The U-3 fight primarily consists of Leon pushing buttons to make hanging containers fall into an abyss. Some fans enjoy the more horror-feel that the U-3 boss fight offers compared to other encounters in the game, whereas others have criticized it for feeling out of place and lacking proper story buildup.
It seems Capcom wasn't a fan of the U-3 boss fight either, as it has been left on the cutting room floor in the remake. No reason has been given as to why Capcom decided to cut the U-3 boss fight from the Resident Evil 4 remake. However, one could assume that the fight was left out because of the complaints some fans have had with it combined with the fact that it had no real bearing on the narrative.
While some fans will be disappointed to learn that the U-3 boss fight is not in the Resident Evil 4 remake, the good news is that its absence makes the Island section of the game a little breezier. It also helps keep the game focused on the Krauser boss fights that define this area, which helps with the pacing. It's always possible the U-3 will be recycled for some kind of post-launch update or something, but fans shouldn't hold their breath.
It's unlikely that the U-3 will return as part of a future Resident Evil 4 remake update or DLC, but there is indeed updates for fans of the game to look forward to in the near future. It's been confirmed that the Resident Evil 4 remake is adding Mercenaries mode on April 7 for free. There's still been no word on other bonus modes that didn't make it to the Resident Evil 4 remake, namely Assignment Ada and Separate Ways, but hopefully Capcom reveals more information on those at some point soon.
